Gold Plating

Gold is one of the most important precious metal platings in the electronics industry. Gold plating is an excellent choice for components that require good corrosion resistance. Gold-plated connectors can be soldered and gold plating affords good electrical conductivity, as the plating prevents oxidization of the object. Gold also improves the IR reflectiveness and chemical durability of components. This feature is useful for example in measuring devices used in environmental technology.

 

Gold can be coated directly on to most conductive materials. However, the surface treatment of certain metals, such as stainless and acid resistant steel, aluminum, magnesium, chromium, titanium and tungsten require special methods and intermediate coatings. Eforit Oy has carried out demanding gold plating work for over 25 years and developed innovative coating solutions for the technology industry. We offer the most diverse range of electrolytic gold coatings in Finland.

When coating stainless steel, nickel layers are usually used in between. However, due to the magnetic & irritating properties of nickel, it can not be used in certain applications. Eforit Oy offers gold plating of stainless and acid-resistant steel without intermediate nickel coatings.

 

The right gold plating is selected according to the required qualities. We offer the following gold plating options:

Hard Gold

  • 99,8 % gold content
  • Cobalt coprecipitates approx. 0.15-0.2%, which hardens the coating
  • Hardness 150 HV
  • Recommended for applications requiring moderate wear resistance
  • Most widely used form of gold plating

Soft Gold

  • Gold content 99.9%
  • Hardness 90-100 HV
  • Used for electronics connections where the components are joined together with ultrasonic welding, also known as the bonding method
